Leading with context, not control, results in more freedom, by giving employees all the information to make independent decisions and build decision making muscles. In order to lead with context, we are highly aligned and loosely coupled. The context is set so that the employee and boss are in lockstep about what is best for the business. There are few interdependencies between parts so that if a change needs to happen, it doesn't require rebuilding the foundation. Decision making is decentralized with the employees free to make decisions and solve problems safely in the knowledge that the consequences won't ricochet through other departments. Our organizational structure is more like a tree, than a pyramid: Our CEO is the root and the big decisions are made along the branches by informed captains. Our CEO provides 1st level of context, building the foundation of alignment across the company to make the best decisions. Each department doesn't need to be aligned about how to get where they are going, which are left to individual areas, but need to make sure we are all moving in the right direction.

A great, fast, innovative workplace is not a great office but stunning colleagues: highly talented people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives who are extremely creative, accomplish a significant amount of important work, are passionate and collaborate effectively. We are in a creative business not safety critical so our biggest concern is not innovating, or better terms, irrelevancy; however when it comes to mistakes that would be disastrous, employee safety & sexual harassment, there are definitely processes and rules.

THE DEATH CHEATERS STORY





Abdul
"510 Death Cheater"
Nevarez



October 22nd, 2012.



Abdul Nevarez was a Journeyman Sheetmetal worker in San Francisco, heading home from work. He was minutes from arriving home on his motorcycle when a car swerved into his lane and caused him to crash into a pedestrian pole, where he was wrapped around it with his right leg behind his head.


The car never stopped.


He was air lifted to a hospital 30 miles away and immediately taken into surgery to save his life. He endured multiple surgeries for his injuries: compound fracture of left humerus, causing brachial plexus, torn bladder, & comminuted pelvis. His right arm thankfully was unscathed, but his left arm & leg had severe nerve damage


On the 23rd, Abdul went into surgery for compartment syndrome below his knee to save his leg. The upper leg was dead on the 24th, so they amputated his right leg above the knee in order to save his life.


Abdul lost more than 100 units of blood; no other living person received that much blood in the hospital's history and survived. He was in the ICU for the next 10 days, recovered in the hospital for 6 weeks, & came home just in time for Christmas!


Since then, Abdul makes lemonade with the lemons life serves him! ​



He helps & inspires people all over the world through his lifestyle brand that donates 10% of their sales to help amputees, and is a decorated adaptive golfer, even hitting a hole in one!

abdul's journey has profoundly impacted his son.



Since he was 11 years old, Armando Angel Nevarez has seen the bullshit that his father deals with on the daily, yet that never let anything keep Abdul from doing anything. Armando has that same mentality: can't stop, won't stop, refuse to stop.


After 4 life changing mission trips in Tijuana neighborhoods with the La Morita Mexico Youth Mission non-profit where ~80 people (mostly high-schoolers), build 3 homes in 4 days, positively impacting 3 families in La Morita Mexico every year, Armando wanted to help more people.


He launched the successful Kickstarter for the feature documentary, “Everybody Can Be the Change: La Morita Mexico Youth Mission”. to get a 2nd trip in the same year! 100% of all money raised will be donated to the non-profit, La Morita Mexico Youth Mission.





To keep as much of the money donated to people of La Morita and help more people, Armando founded Todos Company & Death Cheaters, named after Abdul, the syndicate of companies supporting the mission of Todos:

is composed of 3 horizontal pixels: red, green and blue. These colors create everything seen on screens.


They intersect to create teal and yellow, showing that everybody (Todos in Spanish) is connected.


When the pixels are separated, they create the shape of an E for everybody.


The logo is also earth as the colors represent the climate from north to south.

originates from the O.G Death Cheater, Abdul Nevarez. A few years after his near fatal hit and run motorcycle accident, he got his Death Cheater tattoo to commemorate the numerous times he's cheated death.
